It’s finally here!

After all the waiting and production hours our official documentary is here!

Yes, we’ve been talking about this project for months, and it’s finally come to light! January 27th marked a moment in our company’s history; we celebrated our ten year anniversary with a full-length documentary of our story.

We’ve just finished it and have it available to watch via YouTube, but before I turn it over to you, I want to share the story of what went into making this film and why we decided to do it.

Where it started

When we started this project, the idea originally came from me saying we needed to write a book about how we started our business.

The guys and I have slowly been documenting stuff, building timelines, and I started a spreadsheet years ago and put significant events in it to prevent us from forgetting stuff.

We always knew we wanted to do something special for our ten year anniversary, but we didn’t have any particular idea in mind.

By early February of 2016, we decided we wanted to try and share our story of where we came from and how we got to where we are today.

So, to make this happen, we decided to just write a timeline of all the most important events in our journey as a business, and just film us each talking about our experiences. We got with our team, chose someone to film, write and edit the project.

Our original goal was to create a short 10-minute video, and that would be the end of it.

Well, like everything else in the life of our business, things escalated quickly from a short video into a full-length documentary. At this point, the three team members spent six months reviewing footage, re-filming, and editing the documentary into a cohesive outcome.

Getting to this result was nerve-wracking for me because our team went into top-secret mode and didn’t show us, owners, ANY footage until they premiered it in January.

Handing our story to our team

Now being completely removed from the filming process was probably the biggest trust exercise I’ve ever been put through, professionally speaking.

I knew our team understood what the ultimate intention was. I absolutely trusted them to be creative enough to make a film that communicated the greater purpose of what we were trying to achieve. But this was still hard for me, giving up that control.

I’m glad I did.

What I wanted all along was a video we can look back to, from the future, and have some perspective by documenting our story through film.

When our company size gets to 500 and more, I know it will be nearly impossible for me to go around and know everyone as well as I currently know them. But I still wanted something to introduce people into our company.

Something that shows our struggles and successes, while helping people see where we came from and how we changed over time.

I think entrepreneurs will be able to relate to the struggles of building a company.

So, without further ado, I’d like to direct you to follow this link here, where you can watch the whole video. We put a lot of love and time into making this film, and I sincerely hope you enjoy it. Click here to watch the full movie!
